Pasadena Community Foundation

Legacy Society...

For those with a passion for Pasadena!

The Legacy Society recognizes and gives appreciation to a special group of individuals and families who have named the Pasadena Community Foundation as a beneficiary in their estate plan or provided for perpetual support of our community through the establishment of an endowment fund.  Members of the Legacy Society are honored each year at the Annual Legacy Luncheon and are also invited to special events which give tribute to the work of local non-profit organizations.  In addition, they are recognized in the annual report and the PCF website.

Leave a Legacy through your Estate Planning:
To become a member of the Legacy Society, all you need to do is inform us of the provision you have made for the Foundation through your will or trust or other estate planning means such as a retirement account or life insurance policy. The amount is not a factor and does not have to be disclosed.  You may remain anonymous if you wish.

Sandra Shatto's estate plan includes bequest for PCF

Sandra Shatto worked with her attorney, Kelley Bannon Lashley, to create charitable endowments for the future.

Sandra Shatto was delighted when her attorney, Kelley Bannon Lashley referred her to the Pasadena Community Foundation.  It turned out to be a great fit.

A portion of Sandra’s estate will go to charity.  Sandra has been a long time Pasadena resident and loves this community.  Things that are important to her include her beloved dogs.  Sandra also enjoys music and attending concerts.  Through her estate plan she will leave a bequest to the community foundation to create two funds:  one to benefit dogs; another to support music.  The community foundation will award grants to appropriate local organizations honoring Sandra’s intent in perpetuity.

Kelley Bannon Lashley is an estate planning attorney in Pasadena at Anglea & Bannon.

Kelley is a fan of community foundations.  Her first boss and mentor was a founding member of the San Luis Obispo Community Foundation.  She came to appreciate the flexibility they offered in serving the needs of her clients who wanted a charitable component in their estate plan.

According to Kelley, "Foundations are not only good stewards of charitable assets, they are stewards of the donor's charitable intent.  PCF worked with Sandra to create a statement of purpose capturing the goals for her bequest.  They kept me in the loop and I was able to then finalize Sandra's trust documents.  If my clients don't have a particular charity in mind, PCF is one option I suggest they consider."

Establish a Permanent Endowment Fund:
Alternatively, you can consider the establishment of an Endowment Fund of $10,000 or more for perpetual unrestricted support or to permanently support a cause you care about.  As an advisor to this fund, you can recommend grants from the earnings and income to charities.  The fund can be created in such a way to provide perpetual support to specific charities or to a particular field of interest.  You can also pass this legacy on to your children by naming them as successor advisors to the fund.

Please contact Jane Laudeman, Director of Development, at (626)441-3840 ext. 5 or jlaudeman@pasadenacf.org to learn more about the Legacy Society.
