“Through our media coverage, we try to showcase the good works of non-profits, celebrate volunteerism and recognize the generosity of donors. There are lots of good stories to share.”

CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL HEROES
By Awarding $687,000 in Grants
Not everyone in the Pasadena area may know their names but they are definitely our Local Heroes. And once a year at its Local Heroes breakfast celebration, the Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) shines a spotlight upon these nonprofit organizations that serve our community so well and in so many different ways.
On Tuesday, June 7th at 7:00 a.m. at the University Club of Pasadena (175 North Oakland Avenue), the Pasadena Community Foundation will honor 43 local non-profit organizations by awarding $687,000 in grants. Attended by about 200 civic and community leaders, the event highlights the accomplishments of those organizations that sustain the quality of life in and around Pasadena. Grants range from a few thousand dollars for Regular Grants to $50,000 for Major Grants.
Through its dedicated support of the work of local non-profit agencies and institutions, the 58-year-old Foundation has, as of this year, invested a total of $21 million in the local community. This makes the Pasadena Community Foundation, our hometown foundation, one of the largest single donors to local non-profits in the Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre area. Donations by local donors to their local community foundation make this possible.
Attending the Local Heroes event, will be Pasadena City Manager Michael Beck delivering a special City of Pasadena proclamation declaring June 7th as Local Heroes Day. Present to welcome him will be the Chairman of the PCF Board, Dr. Arnold Mulder and its Executive Director, Jennifer DeVoll. Both will salute the dedication and compassion that characterizes the work of the local non-profit community in helping the sick, educating our youth, caring for the elderly and supporting the arts and the environment.
