“Through our media coverage, we try to showcase the good works of non-profits, celebrate volunteerism and recognize the generosity of donors. There are lots of good stories to share.”

PASADENA PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION
GRANTS $47,000 TO FUND TEEN CENTRAL
Pasadena teens have a new area to call their very own, located comfortably on the fourth floor of Central Library, 285 E. Walnut St. The newly christened Teen Central is a place to study, hang out and check out the library’s expansive selection of teen books, magazines and DVDs. The project was funded in large part by the Pasadena Public Library Foundation, a private entity that recently partnered with the Pasadena Community Foundation to continue their legacy of restoring, preserving and maintaining the architecturally and historically significant Central Library Building.
The Pasadena Community Foundation will manage the Library Foundation’s endowment fund that, along with donations from the community, provides the grant money to fund special projects.
The Teen Central remodel was completed in December. Veronica Fuentes, Teen Librarian for all ten branches states “we were growing out of our former space, now the entire teen collection fits in one space.” The remodeled area also provides a more secluded and identifiable space for teens to feel comfortable, study, do homework and be with their peers.
According to Jan Sanders, Director of Library Services for the City of Pasadena, “This public-private partnership is a wonderful example of how a community that cares deeply about its civic institutions has been able to provide important financial support when City budgets are stretched. The Library Foundation has made significant investments in the preservation and refurbishment of the building and in new technology to supplement City funds for capital improvements.”
Since its founding in 1983, the Pasadena Public Library Foundation has contributed over $2.7 million to refurbish and enhance the Central Library.
