NEARER THOSE WE SERVE
After nine-years at Holliston Methodist Church, the ten staff members and several volunteers who operate Young & Healthy, an important health and referral service for Pasadena youth, are moving to Muir High School. “Young & Healthy exists in the community to provide access to health care for low-income, uninsured or under-insured families,” says Executive Director, Mary Donnelly-Crocker. “We are delighted that this move brings us closer to so many of the families we serve.”
Over a year ago, in an effort to reduce costs and maximize the amount put toward health care programs, Young and Healthy decided to find a new location. Moving costs were a major consideration. To help defer those costs, Young & and Health applied for a special $20,000 grant from the Pasadena Community Foundation which was approved by the Foundation Board of Directors. “Because of the important service provided by Young & Healthy for our community’s children, the Board of the Pasadena Community Foundation was pleased to provide a grant to cover the costs of the move,” says Jennifer DeVoll, Executive Director of the Pasadena Foundation. The Foundation provides grants to local non-profit organizations that make a meaningful contribution to the quality of life in Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre.
The new Young & Healthy headquarters will be located off Lincoln Avenue in D building on the Muir Campus (the building with the giant mustang painted on the outer wall). The loading vans, Young & Healthy staff and volunteers will arrive at Muir at around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 10th to unload and prepare the new offices for the opening day of school on Tuesday, September 14th.
